(SUDBURY, ON) The Sudbury Five have acquired the rights to guard Maurice Jones Sr. in a trade with the Island Storm. The Five also acquired the Storm’s 1stand 2ndround picks in the 2019 NBL Canada Selection Draft in exchange for future considerations to be announced at the conclusion of the NBL Canada season. The transaction occurred in the final moments prior to Friday’s NBL Canada Transaction deadline.

A native of Saginaw, Michigan, Jones began the year with the St. John’s Edge before being traded to the Island Storm earlier this season. The 2017 NBL Canada rookie of the year, Jones Sr. played collegiately at the University of Southern California and Northwood University.

In his rookie of the year season, Jones Sr. established himself as one of the top playmakers in the National Basketball League of Canada, breaking the NBL Canada’s assist record with 320. Known as one of the top defenders in the league, the two-time All-NBL Canada Third Team member led the league in steals in each of his two seasons in the league. In 20 games with the St. John’s Edge this season, the 5-foot-7 guard averaged 15.4 points, 6.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.

“Mo is a top talent in this league, and somebody that we’ve been looking to add to our lineup all season,” said Head Coach and General Manager Logan Stutz. “Knowing first-hand what Mo brings to our lineup offensively and defensively after our time together in Windsor, we couldn’t be happier to add him to our lineup. With our injury to Jaylen, Mo will play a big part in our team’s success down the stretch as we approach the playoffs.”

Maurice Jones Sr. will make his Sudbury Five debut Monday wearing #12 as the Five take on the KW Titans in Kitchener Monday at 2:00 PM. Fans can watch his Five debut live on NBLC LIVE atwww.nblclive.ca
